Norton Internet Security 2007 subscription renewal

Last year, I decided to go legitimate, bought and installed Norton Internet Security 2007 (was about $90) in my system. The 1-year subscription has expired and the reminder notice sent everyday says an online renewal would cost me about $80.
Is this worth or is it better to just get Norton Internet Security 2008, would be about $90. In the time being, I'm downloading virus definition from Symantec's website every few days.
Or should I ditch the Nortons and get some other internet security programs since norton has been getting really bad reviews lately.
Can anyone suggest better internet security/anti-virus programs that don't cost a bomb? -
Renewal shouldn't be so expensive... not in my experience. Maybe rules changed.
As for security suites which doesn't cost a bomb... take a look at Trend Micro and AVG. Available at Popular. I think Bitdefender also... but please do the settings for Bitdefender carefully... if it nukes anything... you can say bye bye to your files... -

How come online renew so expensive? Mine Norton System Works 2006 less than $80 but I didnt renew afterall. I bought OEM Norton Internet Sercurity 2007 at SLS last month cost only $30 or less.
