Need help buying cpu

  Im undecided as to go for the package or build the parts individually. I think building a cpu cost more than the package. Anyway,
  
  Package:
  
  Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33 ghz
  Asustek P5KR P35/Dual Raid/eSATA/1394/HD
  Kingston DDR2-667 2 gb RAM (1 gb x2)
  Asus GF 8600GT 256MB PCIE VGA Card
  250 GB Seagate SATA 2 HDD
  Samsung 20x DVD Writer (DF/DL/+/-)
  Cooler Master Centurion 5 Casing
  Cooler Master 430W Power Supply
  Keyboard
  Mouse
  
  If I was to build individually, I may go for
  
  Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33 ghz or Duo E6750
  Asus P5k-SE P35/1333/DDR2/eSATA
  Kingston RAM
  Asus EN8800 GT 256/512 mb DDR3 (512 costs $60 more, I would go for it)
  250 GB Seagate HDD
  Cooler Master Centurion 5
  Cooler Master 550W Power Supply
  
  Im not sure whether Power supply is worth the money, as I dont know the difference between a good power supply and an average one. The difference between the 2 is just $30+ anyway.
  
  Can someone recommend me a good software instead of M. Vista?
  
  Also whats the difference between Core 2 Duo and Quad Core? Does Quad Core run on 4 processors, consuming more energy?
  
  Is the package good enough? I dont think I need a 20x DVD Writer. Whats the use compared with 18x and 16x?
  
  I may consider a cheaper VGA card and a more expensive Motherboard, as the VGA card costs $409, and there are some that costs $200+.

  Ya, whats the difference between the two? They have like the same specifications though the latter costs slightly more.

  E6700 has a front side bus of 1066 mt/s while E6750 has 1333 mt/s.

  E6550 and E6750 differ in clock speed.

  I was reformating my hdd, at about 93%, the power supply was off. Will it damage my hdd?
  
  Also, is 2 x 1gb RAM better than 1 x 2gb RAM or vice-versa? Do I need 800 mhz RAM or 667 mhz RAM will do?

  Just restart the reformat process. If for some reason it doesn't work... the sudden loss in power may have damaged the hardware.

  my suggest to u is get an acer pc for game purpose and if u want a low cost pc.. or u can build it urself if u know how to.. once u ask the uncle in the shop to help u fix the cpu then good luck confirm expensive.. or if u got good budget get the new game notebook... or get get an HP pc... i am now using a HP cost em about 3.7k with all the warranty and stuff...
