A 3.5 inch HDD is a good addition if you need extra space at home. Nowadays 250GB are also cheap.
A 2.5 inch HDD is much more portable, but comes at the expense of a slower data transfer rate. 80GB cost below $100 i think.
Just go to Sim Lim square and ask those computer shop experts there. They will give you a good deal
