How to convert a FAT volume or a FAT32 volume to NTFS
Note Although the chance of corruption or data loss during the conversion is minimal, we recommend that you perform a backup of the data on the volume that you want to convert before you start the conversion.
To convert an existing FAT or FAT32 volume to NTFS, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
2. At the command prompt, type the following, where drive letter is the drive that you want to convert:
convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs
For example, type the following command to convert drive E to NTFS:
convert e: /fs:ntfs
Note If the operating system is on the drive that you are converting, you will be prompted to schedule the task when you restart the computer because the conversion cannot be completed while the operating system is running. When you are prompted, click YES.
3. When you receive the following message at the command prompt, type the volume label of the drive that you are converting, and then press ENTER:
The type of the file system is FAT.
Enter the current volume label for drive drive letter
4. When the conversion to NTFS is complete, you receive the following message at the command prompt:
Conversion complete
5. Quit the command prompt.

In Command Prompt, type in dir and press Enter.
This is your labelVolume in drive C has no label.

There won't be any data loss, provided that the conversion went smoothly. NTFS onli good with storage 80gb and above...preferably 120..

20GB and above should use NTFS.
But they key point abt NTFS is the security and sharing. -

Try this with FAT32 - end all of the svchost.exe forcefully. It will prompt to restart. On startup, it should check your hard disk for errors. Do this for 20 times. Your Windows will corrupt at one of the 20 tries. Then erm... repair Windows or just reformat.
Do the same on NTFS - Windows is still alive.
Don't take this for granted on NTFS though... while it's stable, doing extreme stuffs will still kill Windows when done lots of times.
There's also a size issue. NTFS can handle a much larger hard disk size.
But with extra features come extra concern. In FAT32, there's no way to hide things. With NTFS, you can hide things via ADS (Alternate Data Stream). It's hidden, no change in file size, no change in MD5 or whatever crap.
The only thing you will probably notice is the date, but for the less attentive, the date would serve no purpose if you don't check the dates at all as you've no idea when exactly your files are created and modified. -

ONe of the Cons is some older OS cannot read NTFS parition.

And TS, you can use PartitionMagic to convert your drive to NTFS as well, especially if you have Microsophobia. I think there may be a 30-day trial available on its official website, and I'm sure there's a full version available on unofficial websites.
