My Ubuntu 7.10 CD has arrived

umm how to dual boot it or run it direct from dc

Dual boot using? External USB Hard drive? Or ?
Basically 2 options, use Vista's Bootloader or install GRUB4DOS.
I personally prefer GRUB4DOS over GRUB. GRUB is hard to remove. Need special software to remove. -
Dual boot need to install... partition accordingly... if you do wrongly... there goes your Windows.
If just run from CD... then no need.
By the way, why yours take so long? Received mine about one month ago. -
It usually takes a while for them to send you the CD leh. The last one I had was Feisty Fawn.
Theres a way to restore the MBR. You might want to prepare a CD for Super Grub Disk. Its the only way to fix MBR problems caused by GRUB or other kinda mess you might face. Or at least, the most reliable method I know.
I gave up playing with Ubuntu already. Still find it disappointing. -

Live CDs rawk don't they? Screw up your windows? Pop a Live CD and u may still be able to retrieve some of your data! Everybody should have one. Heck, Windows should make one!

But older versions no such bug... don't know why the latest one introduced this bug.
Quite reliable leh for MSN. Download aMSN and install it. It's laggy though as it's coded in an interpreted language. If not, switch over to use Pidgin. For those using KDE GUI... use Kopete.
For those using Ubuntu or Debian-based distros, try using Automatix to install programs if you want to avoid the hassle.
And ar... some other language keyboard can crash programs... I found out that the Chinese keyboard for Xubuntu crashed my T-Bird... found a fix, wrote a batch file to load it so my T-Bird OK. But no have Chinese. -

Programming also ok. Eg, for Java theres always netbeans.
BUT. If you want to do multimedia work... like Flash, Web Design, Graphics Design... get ready to vomit blood.
Stick to windows. One OS can do everything. -

Corporate users - no. You will have a very big headache over the permissions issues, this cannot do, that cannot do (but that's what makes Linux secure!)
Ultimately, you can't have both usability and security.
Compromise here and there, you get something in between usable and not so friendly.
Web design should be OK... unless you are those click click click type. Then erm.. Windows is for you. Flash bo pian... graphics design GIMP can handle... but some may not find it as good Photoshop... average users who use the common functions will not find it much of a hassle...
3D design in Linux will also kill... -

Still it works fine.
Check in with us before u try to install. THere are a few things u MUST take note of. Esp, where to install the Master Boot Record. You put that in ur C: or ur Windows drive, you GG liao.
