If you read up on most internet sources, they will tell you that the only valid characters are a-z, 0-9, and dashes for second and the subsequent character, and to a maximum of 67 characters inclusive of the TLD.
But this doesn't seem to be true - I discovered a domain name using some Japanese character which means ditto based on this
discord-sowing thread. (To quote someone, please do not feed the troll/cat.)

And I wonder, if non-alphanumerical characters are permissible, why are the China sites still using boring, non-descriptive domain names like 12345.com. Easier to type, maybe? Or easier to spread malware as well?
