Hello, is there anyway i can ensure that the file i download from torrent is save?? Maybe can do virus scan but is it 100% useful?
And no, i am not talking about dling porn..... -
There's no way to determine if a torrent file downloaded is safe.
Because by using P2P, you are connecting directly to more than one user's computer. The first one may be clean, the second may not be.
Ends up the torrent file is infected as well.
And with changing techniques of viruses... antivirus are less than effective these days. -

ok, what i can say is that torrents are only as safe as the community using it. same for all P2P applications.

If your AV is good, even if there is a virus previously unknown in the file, it can be picked up by the AV's heuristics analyzer. And, torrents that have many seeds are usually safe. I mean, which idiot would spare bandwidth to seed virus-filled trash other than the creator himself? Yes, its not that good, but essential for torrents to operate effectively. Of course, they are trying to use DHT to replace the need for trackers, but DHT is not very sucessful, imo.Originally posted by davidche:I dont think that is something good eh? -

whats DHT? and i find it funny that torrents lags my internet though their downloading at 100kb/s, and downoading from http/ftp sites, at 400-600kb/s, still wont lag my internet?

As for why ur torrent lags, 1 possible reason is becoz u set ur torrent client to search and connect to too many peers. -

and change the upload cap to 80% of your maximum upload bandwidth. If you are unsure what to change to, just select Automatic should work as well.
