typing in chinese

  i need to type some stuff in chinese, but i cant do that on my laptop
  
  erm....any programme or stuff which i can erm...download?????

  Ermm, do you need to type a lot? If you don't, you could try Character Map if your pinyin is good.
  
  I think tamago taught me before that nowadays you can type in Chinese characters by changing the language settings in your Control Panel, but have to use MS Word..

  Erm, the IME will work on most applications, not just MS Word.
  
  As for TS, go to:
  
  Start > Control Panel > Regional and Languange Options > Languages, click on details. Go and add Chinese PRC as input.
  
  If prompted to put in XP CD, do so.

  Doesnt apply in microsoft words also.
  when you change the settings, you can use it anywhere .

  Did I miss out a step?
  
  Maybe somebody can teach me how to do it again, so I don't have to keep using Character Map...

  Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages > Check the box on "Install Languages for East Asian Languages" > Go to Details tab, add Chinese PRC
  
  Next, go to start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Language Settings and add Chinese PRC
  
  to use it, open Microsoft Word, go to the task bar, Right Click, Toolbars > Language Bar

  change to your preferred settings. eg chinese if you want to type chinese.
  
  and i repeat to other forumers, there's no need to use word if you dont want.
  
  
  
  juz rmb to save in unicode if you want to use notepad or wordpad.

  forgot to restart the com....that's why it didnt work. hehe
