SQL Server vs MySQL

  Hi, does anyone know the difference between SQL Server and MySQL? How is the cost, the features, etc? Please help.Thanks..

  But to use mysql, you need to load special libraries as well I think. I'm currently working on both of them for my projects, so far both seem equally reliable. I'd go with mysql cos its FREE!
  
  SQL Statements are the same for both.
  
  Differences will lie in how the drivers are called i guess?
  
  Eg.
  
  String connectionURL = "jdbcdbc:wsdDB"; //SQL
  vs
  String connectionURL = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/wsdDB" //mySQL
  
  and
  
  Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver"); //SQL
  vs
  Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance(); //mySQL
  
  Beyond that, nothing much I guess.

  of coz there's limitation... mysql is for small scale projects... while sqlserver is more robust

  Not really. I'm currently working on a rather complicated database running off mySQL. I've not encountered issues with scalability. Its all on the database design.

  i meant the number of clients tat are able to connect to the db simultaneously....

  Hmmm, I've yet to test how much volume it can handle, a bit hard to do that actually. Would appreciate if you have some link to an article on this.
  
  So far, I'm ensuring every connection is closed properly and quickly, minimizing connections to database as well.

  Connector/J is used when using Java with mysql....
  
  Connector/ODBC,Connector/Net,Connector/PHP are used for the same purpose but for different connection methods.

  Oh, i was told that mysql can support up to 500 connections and more if the server is capable.

  MySQL is platform independent, MSSQL is not.

  if u're going to build enterprise-level system, please go for oracle for its scalability

  usually people just stick with what they know.... if you are brought up with MS SQL then you would rather stay with MS SQL...

  MySQL can run in linux / windows / etc
  
  MSSQL can only run on MS platform

  it's almost impossible to list all the features + differences between the 2 products
  
  TS: pls spend some effort doing research on the net...tons of info to compare these 2 DBMS product
