Extremely slow wireless connection

  I have been using my currently motorola modem/ wireless router in one for a year at least. My comp is wirelessly connected to it with a Linksys network adaptor (1st Gen). My ISP is Starhub
  
  Everything has been ok all this while, occasional hiccups were easy to solve. however, since Monday, my wireless connection has been extremely slow.
  
  Im getting like widely fluctuating latency ( as I can see from online games) from 30-2000 ping... Mostly constant at 1500 ping. WTF? Normally I should be getting like 30-60 ping. surfing internet is fine but playing online is virtually impossible
  
  Ive tried turning off and turning on the modem/router, but it does not solve the problem. I am not too familiar with this motorola modem/router as it came as a special bundle with a starhub subsrciption plan
  
  It cant be my Linksys network adaptor because my other laptop i tried to use also is experiencing slow internet conn. So it most probably is the modem/router. Any ideas will be appreciated

  check if someone is tapping on ur wireless connection
  
  check if there are any programs that is using alot of ur bandwidth (eg. p2p softwares like bittorrent)
  
  and if there are alot of starhub users in ur block/neighbourhood using high speed plans, that might be another cause

  Block all High ports on your router, and create exceptions for your games.
  
  Someone's probably using bitorrent.

  one reason could be my sis came back from oz and i she also using her laptop connect to the router thru wireless.
  
  but even at night and at all times, when shes not using, the conn is also very slow. its like super slow 24/7 now

  have you tried rebooting your wireless router? As in hard boot... power on and off. It happens to my D-link one too.

  that motorola router no on off switch so i simply pull the plug then reconnect. it makes the connection speed become fast BUT only temporarily then the conn steadily becomes back to its laggy state.
  
  ive tried unplugging and plugging back several times no lasting effect. Could it be ISP problem? or the modem/router damaged/kena virus or something?

  Seriously, there maybe something flooding your network. Perhaps even getting bounced around. Unplug one of the computers or laptops, and see if that happens. Might be good to run a sniffer to check as well.
