Hmm I tried 6.0, it was abit laggy for me because I only had 256mb ram...but then it gives you the Vista look instead of the boring XP.
The problem is when it is installed to your computer, the processes running are like 50over...you need to have Styler, LClock, ViStart, ViOrb and kind of things to work to have the Vista look. So it will make your comp a little laggier and loading windows desktop also slower.
For those who are having the installer crashing, it is because you are using a Intel Graphics card. You need to uninstall something and then re-install back after installing VTP8.0.1
I used that solution but now I have some 'Plug & Play' thingy having a dialog saying that Hardware Found, please insert install disc or something...quite troublesome cause I don't have it, I only had the recovery disc.
I am preparing a re-format now... -

6 had the glass & transparency thing that 8 did not have.
8 had the side bar where 6 did not have.
Infact most of the things are 3rd party softwares... -

Actually...
I solved it by reformatting(SP1), then get SP2 ONLY, then install Vista, then go to Windows Updates to do everything... -
me using athlon XP 2400, 2ghz.....old processor
gforce 4 graphic card...old card
but me have 1gb ram....

but note that i didn't install some of the 3rd party softwares like sidebar/visual tooltip/vistart/viorb -
