Makcik PCÂ’s opening ceremony was completed by YAB DatoÂ’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia. He told that Makcik PC is available throughout the promotion period with lowest price about RM560 per PC.
A device, currently developing that ought to help reduce the digital divide between the more tech savvy and affluent Malaysia and the more less tech savvy and rural Malaysia.
The MAK-CIK PC is being designed to be lightweight and mobile and to work with any TV. The device is also expected to be equipped with Wi-Fi (and soon WiMAX) capabilities to enable remote connectivity. It will also have built in flash memory instead of a large hard disk capacity to achieve the desired form factor and lightness.
The content/applications currently built into the MAK-CIK PC device is divided into 4 categories – Communication, Information, Community and Learning. Studies are also being conducted to gauge the response of the MAK-CIK PC by the group most affected by the digital divide - the rural elders.
Some of Makcik PC specifications:
* Does not have keyboard
* Has touch screen
* Wide screen
* Easy accessible
* Has about 16″ rectangle dimension
The product version of MIMOS CyberTablet will be equipped with:
* Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and WiMAX connectivity
* Flash memory
* Softphone (VoIP Phone)
* Virtualization software to allow software applications to be downloaded on the fly from MIMOS Grid Computing
* Personalization software developed by MIMOS
* The latest social networking tools
The purpose Malaysia release this Makcik PC is because we want to reduce the technology gaps between town and outside-town areas. We want all Malaysians will able to have a PC in home. Maybe that is why MIMOS want to use Makcik PC for the branding because their targeted customers are peoples who live outside town.I still dont understand why they would want to scrap off the idea of a conv keyboard for a touch screen. As it's suited for Malaysians who are not that well off, they will not be able to afford to repair the screen if it spoils or if it hits something hard (screen confirm crack).
i think its quite cheap...Originally posted by kenn3th:Pictures
