It does, Help to startup faster, cause your computer is in standby mode.Originally posted by davidche:Does repeatedly going into standby mode help to speed up the comp?
My friend does that
Agreed..Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:In my opinion, it spoils the computer faster. Anything that is left dangling between half dead and half alive will make it dead sooner.

Under c drive > right click >properties > (tick box) compress
Defrag arranges the files on you harddisk so that they can be read sequentially, which makes reading data faster.Originally posted by wonderamazement:What's defragging for?
can mayi or some pros reconfirm that??Originally posted by abao:
Compressing a drive will SLOW down your computer performance.
It can free up extra space for you to use, at the expense of higher CPU cycle when accessing the data and harder to recover if a data on the compressed drive is corrupted.
since you dun trust me, go read yourselfOriginally posted by davidche:can mayi or some pros reconfirm that??
yes it slows. u are right but then u are wrong again.. its faster in the sense when you open and read the data..Originally posted by abao:since you dun trust me, go read yourself

So i am thinking that if it is a game file, i should compress it yea? So as for faster 'read'Originally posted by manyu882:yes it slows. u are right but then u are wrong again.. its faster in the sense when you open and read the data..
when data are saved to a compressed disk, it takes around 10% more time to save into hard disk due to compression of files.
but then when its time to read them, its faster by 10%( or more). mainly because the data are expanded in the RAM.. ram is running in high frequency.. faster than your hard disk rotates.. thus it saves 10% of the time.
overall, it depends on TS usage. if u frequently read and save the same data in your drive, i recommend not to compress it.
hoewever, its for storage... backup..or just to read datas...the same data in the drive, its ok to compress it. but beware of the disavantages listed in wiki.
Note: u wont feel the effect unless u are reading a file like 1GB of size or more
its not that i dont trust you, its that i dont know you at all.Originally posted by abao:since you dun trust me, go read yourself

Why is there a need to reconfirm?Originally posted by davidche:can mayi or some pros reconfirm that??
to make sure he is right.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Why is there a need to reconfirm?
yea u can but then dont forget about the other files in the hdd too ^^... windows have to shut down slow ectectOriginally posted by davidche:So i am thinking that if it is a game file, i should compress it yea? So as for faster 'read'
then u might say "Hey Mayi, can I check if....."Originally posted by davidche:to make sure he is right.
