Is this laptop cheap?

I've been looking for cheap laptop for my work then happen to see this advertisement in the straits times... The acer laptop is only for $799 nia =) so cheap mann. i ask my wife then she say is good deal also leh then i very keen..
The configuration are as follow intel 1.66Ghz, 1gb ram, 80gb hdd and windows vista hahaha good enuff for me i think. They have only limited to 10 sets per day. The place is at funan #04-03 MC.2(weird but unique name) =p
how?? any advise?? -
Vista laptops ain't so cheap. Did you read properly?
Usually, if it's that low, you are almost guaranteed an AMD chip + Linux. -
It sounds reasonable for a disposable laptop.

Home Premium and above - 2GB and above. Anything lesser, prepare to let it lag.
Ultimate - consider getting the 64-bit of Vista Ultimate... so you can add more than 4GB that some mobos support... -

Let me tell you one true story
I went out with my dad to get a laptop from funan, cause we saw a cheap deal on the newspapers.
when we went there, the service was bad, no one attended to us, they just continue doing their things.
when we enquire about the model we wanted. One said Sold out when it was 11 plus (reasonable)
one said stock haven come.
Vista Home basic is like xp, and it runs quite smoothly.
For BUSINESS and above
1gb = lag = system resources 100% = horror
Mayi, for ultimate, donned to have 64bit, 32bit is enough to support up to 4gb ram.
64bit rams can go up to 32gb ram?! -
Yes... but mobo currently don't support so much lah. Up to 8GB is what I've seen. Frankly, 2GB for Ultimate is a little on the low side... Vista Business is already quite slow with 2GB of RAM. When I bought the acer laptop , the screen striped across on the third day. The shop replaced it with a new one. The second one - same thing but it happened within one day. And the third one at least works , so I wonder how long it will take for it to break down.
In contrast to my IBM which lasted for 7 years with only an internal cabling problem 3 years after I bought it , ACER is crap. -
Windows Vista eats up 75% of a 512 mb ram.

$1600 for a damn good specs for its price range.

But for $800, there's not a lot of selection.
If budget can be stretched, I'll recommend getting the Macbook also. -
I just came back from there. Seen the laptop physically quite ok lar for the price of 799. cannot expect much also mah but in the end didnt buy cos i thinking of getting a better model since i got play game hehehe... but i saw alot of ppl buying that model leh.. some even say ppl queuing up since 7am
