windows pic and fax viewer problems

  i recently reformatted my com, after saving some pics to various folders, they are viewable and issue free for a while, but a day later or so, i cant even see the thumbnails of the pics in their folders, and when i am in those folders, explorer.exe hogs all the cpu, and i have to reboot or crash explorer exe to fix the problem.
  
  strange thing is, i can view pics on my external hard drive, with no problems

  It might be a thumbs.db corruption. This file keeps track of images and their thumbnails in each folder. Ask anty for the command-line to delete it.

  Delete it ar? I don't know. Maybe force it to re-generate.
  
  1. Open My Computer
  
  2. Click on Tools > Folder Options
  
  3. Select the View tab
  
  4. Tick this box: Do not cache thumbnails
  
  5. Click OK
  
  6. Close My Computer and open it again
  
  7. Repeat steps 1 to 5 again, reversing step 4.
  
  See if you can view the pictures.

  that trick worked last time, but now its stopped working, once again cant go into my pic folder without cpu usage skyrocketing, and now the folders on my external hard drive are also being affected.
  
  think i have to do what latecomer suggested?

  Eh did you forget to complete Anty's step 7?

  Or better yet, totally ignoring Step 7.
  
  And I wonder if you are trying to view PNG images. They are known suckers for resource in XP.
  
  Don't know why, seems to be a bug that affects some people.

  did everything but still got problems.
  
  the folders in question have about 230+ pics, mostly jpeg and some gif images

  Have less than 50 pics in a folder.

  hmm, before my reformat, i think i had 1000+ pics in one folder and i had no issues. could it be cause i am using XP Sp2 now, before i had XP SP1 installed?
  
  also, is there a way i can get those pics and move them into different folders, i tried the cut paste method, that just causes explorer to freeze.
  
  btw, the problem also occured when i had only had 10 or so pics in a folder, i reformatted, saved some pics, it was ok until a day later

  finally figured out the cause of the problem
  
  i kept trying to save the same pic, which seems to be corrupt in some way.
