If you use other's people wireless to hack then maybe not that easy to trace.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:laptop... ? Unsecured wireless in Singapore?
They need much more evidence than the attack comes from your connection... there will be inconvenience of course... but no serious problem...Originally posted by furb:Then let that guy (who's computer got hack by the hacker) to become scrapgoat. wahaha
bear in mind that one can easily fake their Mac Addresses, so that makes it even harder to trace if someone else's connection was usedOriginally posted by AndrewPKYap:They need much more evidence than the attack comes from your connection... there will be inconvenience of course... but no serious problem...
unless you can get hold of the computer/laptop ... and check the Mac Address...Originally posted by eagle:bear in mind that one can easily fake their Mac Addresses, so that makes it even harder to trace if someone else's connection was used

Wah, you make it sound so easy leh. If thats the case, the profiling they did was wrong already. It'd be rather well planned out attack and level of sophistication higher than expected.Originally posted by furb:Hmm...
Lets say the hacker hacked into 2 PCs (A and B and used it as zombies).
He then used his own PC to send commands to PC A then to PC B then to ODEX website.
So, if in any case, ODEX trace him back, he will then break off the connection to PC A.
So odex will only trace back to PC B, and if, just in case, ODEX manage to trace pass PC B, the hacker would have long disconnected from PC A (wiping all traces off) so eventually its either PC A or B that is the scrapegoat.
Besides, he can use unsecured wireless as additional backup.
But, judging from the news, its doesn't sounds that the hacker is that much sophisticated.

Wireless@SG is registered to your NRIC IIRC, so using that to hack isn't smart either. IMO, its easier n safer to hack's someone's WEP wireless (if can get their router admin lagi best) , use their connection as well as an old 2nd hand laptop to do the job. Change mac address, and proceed with scanning and gaining access. End of job, change mac address again, clean the hard drive, and erase router logs.
