desktop.ini and thumbs.db files are harmless. No idea what Windows uses them for.Originally posted by Cool-gal:u r genius, man..
i was just abt to post a similar thread luckily i did a search.
mayi, wad if i have deleted those files? cos i tot they are a nuisance and
tot its ok to do without them, so is it ok??
got one icon is desktop.ini
desktop.ini is for storing info on how to display a particular folder, like background images and what kind of view it should display for that folder. but it is only useful if you actually customised any folder.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:desktop.ini and thumbs.db files are harmless. But for any files in Windows or system32 folder... if you delete and they are not re-generated by Windows... either on next restart you can't start up Windows... or Windows will just keep screaming that some files can't load and it crashes then restart.... or nothing will happen until you start experiencing problems.
