not complaining, but why is ddr2 ram so cheap?
my mainboard has 4 slots for ram, 2 are used up, they are blue color. if i buy one 1gb ram and put it in the black slot, will tere be problems? -

Because most manufacturers do not produce DDR Rams anymore since most of the plaform today make use of DDR2.
Nothing will happen, you can slot the RAM into the black slot.However, your RAM will not run in dual channel mode. -

Basically it doubles the bandwidth at which data is transferred to your memory and then to the controller -

Anyway, they are really getting almost dirt-cheap now. 1 GB for $33. It's like a 80% drop since last year leh. What happened within the RAM manufacturing industries sia?
The colour part it's meant for distinguishing between ports when dual-channeling. But since you don't make use of it, it won't matter if you simply plug the new RAM sticks into the black ports. For more info, read the article linked by orionlight. -
