Problem with laptop.

Hi,
I have a problem with my laptop. Normally, if I plug in the cable, other laptops will auto detect the lan connection. But this laptop couldn't detect any.
My friend said it's cause it doesn't have the driver.. So went to download and install. However, upon installation, there isn't any response.
Please advise. Thanks! -
Restart computer, then enable it.
1. Start > Control Panel, double click on Network Connections
2. Right click on Local Area Connection and select Enable -

What operating system or Windows are you using?

Your control panel does not have networking???
Start > Control Panel, double click on Network Connections
Did you install networking options?
Maybe you need to install networking options from your Windows XP install disk. I don't know, because I am not using Windows XP. -
Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add / Remove Windows Component > Networking Services

If it's laptop, check the Power schemes. Power schemes can disable wired connections.

hey i've checked the power options, there doesn't seemed to be anything affecting the network.. anything else i can do? thanks!

2. Select Hardware tab
3. Click on Device Manager button
4. Click on the + sign next to Network Adapters

The card should be an Ethernet card.
