  As long as your Windows is legal, you will get it FOC.
  
  The only problem is a big download.
  
  If Microsoft is kind, they will send you copies of SP3 for free, like what they did for SP2. It's for a limited time though. I was one of the lucky ones. 2 free copies.

  All service packs are cumulative, meaning, it's a build up of the previous one.
  
  If 1 doesn't exist, 2 won't.
  
  You need to install SP1, followed by SP2 before SP3 can be installed.

  I know MS has released the details for Vista SP1 (a document documenting what SP1 will improve...) , but the SP1 is only available for testers.

  no loh u will be able to get to the install page but only for 30day before it ask you for cd-key again

  Because there's two kinds of validation in XP.
  
  WGA - the one that prompts you to install an ActiveX to see if your Windows is legal. There are a thousand and one tools to bypass that.
  
  There's another one which can take place offline. That's the part that takes place during the installation. So far, none that I know of has managed to bypass this.
