Paypal deduction

I signed up for a paypal account recently and added a bank account as well as a credit card. My main purpose for signing up a paypal account is to receive money from sale transactions overseas. Amounts wont be huge so I didnt verify my account which requires me to pay US$3. However on the day i added my credit card, I had a S$1.44 deduction from my card. I have not made any transactions, added any money to my paypal account nor verified my account. Does anyone know the reason behind the deduction?

don't worry. that's equivalent to USD1.00, which is the min amt required for you to have in your paypal acc inorder to have it verified. once verified, you can use the USD1.00 for your first purchase.
note though, u can't receive money if yours not a visa card. -

cannot transfer funds from paypal to ur mastercard acc tat mean the fund will stuck at paypal.

Paypal customer service sucks. I wrote to paypal customer support email before and the first response from paypal "customer support" is a typical response from someone in china who doesn't actually read what I wrote. The reply was less than helpful and makes me wonder if it would actually be a robot that fires off an auto response to emails. The second email took them another 3 days to reply from a different customer support (also from china) and still doesn't give the solution to the problemOriginally posted by Xcert:paypal email help quite efficient...

but paypal charges seller heavily. plus the US$ to S$ conversion is very low. and S$ to US$ conversion is very high. They earn lots of money from this. -
There is no acknowledge email. The reply is from the china support people and they only reply 3 days after. Lucky last time when i escalate a claim, the customer service officer is from US. It is settled immediately since it is almost 45 days.
I guess you are just unlucky. but if you are not satisfied, you should complain to them since money is involved here. -

That 1 USD deduction is to verify your card. You have to call your card center to obtain... if I remember... the last 4 digit of the charged transaction which you will need to verify you are the card owner... -

i feel paypal is con things.but...more secure than most other transactions la.if within SG transactions just use bank transfer lor.if overseas... no choice la, if u accept western union than another story.

buyer is not protected at all. Seller will have smaller market since in western union, seller pays all the charges (I think so).
At least Paypal help you when you escalate a claim. Only that when you are the seller, you must ship via registered mail and please read the instruction carefully. It is somewhere in paypal website. this is very important because if buyer escalates the claim and you do not follow the guideline provided by paypal, you will lose the case immediately. -
