Thinkpads native resolution is 1024 x 768. In fact, most laptops from 2004 to around mid 2006 has their resolution set as that. Even for high end ones, running CAD for less than one hour, you will notice significant slow down. A restart will solve the problem.
Please, they are students. And you think how long they will spend on this software? It's less than a day.
