Questions:
1) I planned to upgrade the screen to 15.4 Ultrasharp Widescreen WSXGA+ (1680x1050) Display with TrueLife. Is there make any different? Will the display looks much better, I mean a lot?
2) I'm planning to install Windows XP instead of Vista. So, my concern is the RAM and XP enough to support the graphic card?
I need specific details and answers on Q1.

I can't comment on your first question, but for your second, there's no such thing as a RAM or software requirement for any graphic card (other than those that uses the system RAM, but 8600GT is not one of them anyway), as long there are drivers available for the OS (eg. Windows) you will be using; and I'm very sure there is one for Windows XP. Wide screen looks very bad in my opinion.

Beware of exploding laptop
Q1. Truelife display = Bright but very reflective. This one is up to you lor. If u prefer to look at brighter screens then upgrade lor.
Q2. The specs are more than enough to support XP. But make sure you have all the drivers ready to install later. -

You don't ask why. Go around shopping and look at those wide screen laptops. You tel me if they do look better.

True Life will be those glossy screens. They Are reflective, and these kind of screens are best to view videos, games as the color is more vibrant, but do take note that you will strain your eyes and your eyes will get tired more easily due to the colors. The colors that you see on these kind of screens might vary slightly frmo the colors that u see on print. Reasons above. So if u are doing more of designing, use a matt screen what u see is what u get.
For Question 2, Graphics card do not need Ram, unless your graphics card uses your ram for it's graphics processing.
Xp is able to support the graphics card.
Your Ram is more than enough for xp and this system is somehow or another, quite "godly" in xp. Lag Free^^ -
Eh. Didn't realize it was a laptop. Anyway, with XP, your lappie would probably last longer when it is not A/C-powered than with Vista as, quoting the same reason, the user interface in XP is less graphic-intensive than Vista's Aero (though it can be switched off, but if so, then you should be getting XP instead).

After doing research on the net, it seems that Dell Inspiron 1520 widescreen always give 'grainy' problems.....someone enlighten me please? -

sort of a step back if u look in a certain view....
i mean..up to u lor...
am currently waiting for the MSI gaming laptop....gonna try vista for the first time....need to learn how to use it anywaes.. -
