what do you call those RAM bars thing, RAM cards? and in s'pore, the max they sell is 1gb right? for DDR2

Errr...just call them RAM. The retailers and anyone else will know what you try to mean through context. Just call it RAM, they will understand. If you need it for laptop, specify that it's for a laptop.
Like: "I would like to upgrade my RAM to 1GB for my laptop."
They will usually ask you if you want 1 or 2 pieces. Go for 1 piece to save for future upgrades. -

Anyway, if TS is upgrading to the maximum that the motherboard can handle, then there's no need to leave a slot for future upgrades.... Cannot upgrade anymore mah... -

I don't think so. 533 MHz etc go with an equivalent. I had problems when I mixed different bandwidth, so I assume it would be the same with latency? Brands should not be a problem.

Different latency - possible, depending on mobo.
Let's say your mobo support 400 and 533MHz of RAM.
These 2 RAMs, often have different latency.
When you put them together, it will run at the slowest possible speed (@ 400MHz and the highest latency).
