No new functions, other than looking nicer.
One thing though, it moves the "bla bla bla is writing a message" from the bottom to the chat area.

It's up to you. Comparing the new one with old ones, I prefer the new one. Connections are much faster and stable and it doesn't lag badly as the older versions. And it crashes less often.

y the @live suck? i think its better cos it shorter to type ... and it use windows live hotmail which i think load faster than other email provider eg yahoo,gmail

Web 2.0 isn't mature. Frankly, a lot of websites that jump on to the Web 2.0 bandwagon are facing lots of problems. Live Hotmail is slow, same goes for Yahoo! new mail interface.
Gmail will face the same problem sooner or later. -
i using this package with Live Mail,messenger and photo album.
so far i'm pretty impressed with Mail as i can read both my singnet and hotmail together.
Messenger wise its pretty much eye candy.
havent use the photo album yet. will go explore it later tonite -
