Wait...for the problem I described...there was one forum which said that the file 25 has to do with administrator privileges (or something)
BTW i tried the XP cd....cant really work.
I go search first...but that's not really helping me la mayi....-.-' I'm stuck overseas, IBM refuses to help other than send me a recovery CD and I got projects due.
Hmmm for one thing: I cannot get into windows. Not even Safe Mode (!!!)Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Red part: What you meant by that?

Hmm... can you check for me one thing.
Right click on the drive that Windows is installed in.
Select Properties.
Check if the File System is FAT32 or NTFS.
I think you follow the Information Week article is better.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Update:
Now on the page where:
Following list shows the existing partitions on this computer (blah blah)
Have 4 partitions, one of it is my XP.
I only have choices to set up XP on a selected item (partition), press ENTER.
Create partition, or delete partition (of course not!)
Edit: what do I do?
And I tried to recover the xp beforehand by using fixmbr...no work.
What key? That's a file.Originally posted by deathscythe99:The key usbhub.sys is not valid?!?!!
I just got that message. OMG
No I dun get into this screen that's the problem.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:I think you follow the Information Week article is better.
1. Insert XP CD, boot up to it.
2. Press Enter just like you are installing a new copy of Windows
3. Press F8 to agree with the license
4. You should see the following screen:
Press R and press Enter.
And after that... it's like installing any programs.
Hmm... are you using the Installation CD or Recovery CD?Originally posted by deathscythe99:No I dun get into this screen that's the problem.
After the license I go directly to my Partitions screen (those partitions I have now)
Mine is Installation CD.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Hmm... are you using the Installation CD or Recovery CD?
Recovery CD cannot be used to repair XP, only Installation CD.
OK, let's see.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Mine is Installation CD.
I dun have recovery CD lol
Never got to this screen.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:OK, let's see.
After the license, did you get to this screen?
Or just simply ask you to create or delete another partition?
Hmm... looks like it can't detect the XP partition...Originally posted by deathscythe99:Never got to this screen.
Simply asks me to create/delete partition and choose which one to install in
Edit: Ahems tried accessing system32 via Recovery Console, a lot of junk -.- and apparently:
c:\windows\repair\system\software
c:\windows\repair\system\sam
c:\windows\repair\system\security
c:\windows\repair\system\default
is missing.
Edit: Thanks for your time mayi
Ok lemme grab a bit first cos school is just about the only place I can get onlineOriginally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Eh, don't touch those folders.
Hmm... looks like it can't detect the XP partition...
I got a feeling it's badly corrupted... NTFS rarely needs chkdsk... even if you encounter BSOD or if it crashes or you force a shutdown.
To have chkdsk running... the situation sounds quite bad.
I think you have to reformat... let me see if I can find other ways.
If the XP CD can't detect your XP partition, you most likely have to format away everything and reinstall XP. And find a way to retrieve back the data (I think may be impossible, since there might be corruption.)Originally posted by deathscythe99:Ok lemme grab a bit first cos school is just about the only place I can get online
And I dunno what happened la. When I installed that Football Manager and restarted, then got chkdsk le. So that's why I uninstalled...lagi worse.
BSOD still ok, I think I can fix. I think if the CD cant recognise my partition means...I need to find someway to grab data out of the drive...?

Another choice... try booting up to the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r
If that doesn't work... then wait for others to help you ba... I run out of ideas liao.
If you are sure that you recover your important files, just reformat and reinstall.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Ok...managed to retrieve mails n most data i need in e partition le....then i think bo bian have to format liao hor??
I think so la...Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:If you are sure that you recover your important files, just reformat and reinstall.
