trying to make handphone themes

anyone done it before? im using GIMP 2.4
resizing has been really hard for me. pictures seem to be cramped up upon desired size.
if anyone want to experiment on GIMP and make themes please do tell me what you know.

yes, downloaded that. all i need to know is resizing the desired picture i want, and fitting it perfectly in the phone not like cramped up resized pics.
googled for GIMP2.4 tutotials but doesnt help much. everyone's using CS2.grrr. -
Re-size the image proportionally to avoid distortion.
