  so should i tick it or untick? on my windows xp when i tick it it save abt 1gb space. on my vista it save 5-10gb space

  when ur hdd goes kapok then it's more likely to not be able to retrieve most of the data.

  Eh imo, this is basically a tradeoff between CPU processing power and disk space. You may save some disk space there, but every time a file is read or written, it requires additional CPU processing to compress and decompress the file respectively. So I would definitely recommend enabling the file compression option if you have an octo-core processor sitting inside your box.

  depends on the user usage.
  
  if u frequently save huge datas on your computer, u will feel that its slow. however, if u open huge datas from the copress drive, it will be much faster than uncompress drive.
  
  my experience: dont bother it lol.. it will be like 10% much faster for opening and 10% slower for saving
