My default value is already 0.Originally posted by kenn3th:There are many ways that you can reduce the amount of time it takes Vista to start up. However, what about the amount of time it takes for a system to shut down? There are a few configuration changes you can make to a computer running Vista to decrease shutdown time.
One such change is to prevent Vista from emptying the contents of the page file when it shuts down. Although many people prefer to have the page file cleared on shutdown for security reasons, it does increase the shutdown time. If the speed of things is more of a priority than security, you can prevent Vista from clearing the page file by completing these few simple steps.
1. Click Start, type Registry Editor in the search field and press Enter.
2. Type regedit.exe and click OK.
3. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
4. Double click ClearPageFileAtShutdown.
5. Change the value data to 0.
6. Close the Registry Editor.

Tried Kerio but it can't be installed with vista..
If you want true outbound firewall protection for your 32-bit Vista PC, use this to help manage Vista's built-in firewall.a short quote. although your anti virus should have fire wall too
Microsoft has been touting the new Windows Firewall in Windows Vista, which it says for the first time includes an outbound filter as well as an inbound filter. Outbound filters are important, because if you've been infected with a Trojan or similar software, it makes an outbound connection without your knowledge, letting someone else take control of your PC. Some malware can also turn your PC into a spam-spewing robot, sending out email without your knowledge.
Unfortunately, the outbound filter in Windows Vista is, in essence, turned off by default. And as a practical matter, it's impossible to manually configure it to block malware making outbound connections. That's where the free Vista Firewall Control comes in. Install it, and whenever an application tries to access the Internet, a screen pops up, with the application name, the publisher, and similar information, as well its path and file name. You can enable or disable inbound or outbound connections it tries to make, either permanently, or just this one time.
I see; thanks kenneth!Originally posted by kenn3th:a short quote. although your anti virus should have fire wall too
Comodo, but it's in beta. Can't find the beta link. ZoneAlarm as well, but it's a resource hog. Norton as well... but I think you will hate Norton.Originally posted by RvnRooRon84:Anybody knows a good firewall that's compatible with Vista?

NOD32 just provides the antivirus system. Not unless you've bought the Security Suite of NOD32.Originally posted by RvnRooRon84:I see; thanks kenneth!
Well, I'm using NOD32 antivirus system; I'm not sure if it has a firewall or not. Perhaps I'll go with your recommendation.

Like your third party firewall, but much more basic, although you need to configure correctly.
1. Start > Run and type in [b]wf.msc

6. Select the correct Profile. By default, you won't need it to be applied to the Domain profile.

7. Give it a meaningful name and description and you're done.
