Checking RAM

  I know that to check RAM, simply right-click on MY COMPUTER.
  
  However, what I wish to know is exactly how much do I have..
  
  It shows 1790 MB..
  
  I have 2 slots and by default had 512 MB on each slot; when purchasing my laptop, I upgraded to 1 GB each, thus I'm supposed to have 2 GB of RAM right?
  
  So, why is my RAM shown as 1760 MB only?
  
  Need advise, thanks guys!

  On-board graphics card...
  
  If not sure, get into BIOS and check. It will show the exact amount.

  It's most likely the on-board graphic card which is utilizing the "missing" memory, as mayi has mentioned. Here's some calculations to support this.
  
  2 GB = 2048 MB
  2048.00 - 1789.56 = 258.44
  
  which is kinda close to the 256 MB of shared memory for the graphic card. Mayi may have an idea about the remaining 2.44 MB, I guess.

  While not exactly sure what causes the extra 2MB, it's not exactly a big deal.

  ATI Xpress 1100 uses HyperMemory, so it's not just 256MB max. It can still handle 128MB more.

  I'm not a graphics expert, but I think this might be the cause.
