How to see how what is the amount that my motherboard can handleOriginally posted by fudgester:The best answer? Just slot in another two 512MB chips into the other two slots. Voila... you have (256 x 2) + (512 x 2) = 1.5GB of RAM!
I don't see why you would want to replace the 256MB chips with 512MB chips when you still have another two empty slots. Besides, I've checked with a number of shops at Sim Lim, and they don't do trade-ins for RAM chips. Since you can't get rid of those two 256MB chips, might as well let them continue working.
The bottom line is simple: buy as much RAM as you can afford. Up to the limit that the motherboard can handle, of course.
You need to find the manual that came with your computer. It will state how much RAM your motherboard can handle.Originally posted by ryangian:How to see how what is the amount that my motherboard can handle
Not stated but will call up Hp to check... thks a lotOriginally posted by fudgester:You need to find the manual that came with your computer. It will state how much RAM your motherboard can handle.

Yup, but somehow they seemed to know what you have done to it. Anyway I didn't have the guts to try it. My friend did. Now he uses that trick to hack Maple. Say what all those operating graphics running in RAM so can hack through there. Dunno how it works, but he start a new account and level up till 54 in 2 days.Originally posted by ryangian:I thought RAM have lifetime warrenty...
Thks for the curial website
It won't be of much use if you use Win XP. Win XP supports 4GB of ram, Mac 16GB and Linux I heard its around 32GB of ram maxOriginally posted by chenc:I have seen this custom made computer with 32Gb of RAM and 160GB of Harddisk. After the PC boot, you can choose an application to run. This application will be taken out of the harddisk completely and put into RAM. This method will speed up the running of the application by 3 to 4 times! With a normal Pantium 4 chip, this PC can juggle cutting-edge graphics games, video playback, and applications like Autocad all at once, each running perfectly and smoothly.
You sure? I thought only the mother board matters. Mac can take 32GB, i am sure of it. I have seen one, in fact.Originally posted by chanff8:It won't be of much use if you use Win XP. Win XP supports 4GB of ram, Mac 16GB and Linux I heard its around 32GB of ram max
Which explains why some OS rocks and others not so rock.Originally posted by chanff8:It won't be of much use if you use Win XP. Win XP supports 4GB of ram, Mac 16GB and Linux I heard its around 32GB of ram max
LOL, i am still trying to replace my XP with OSX, very hard leh, anyone know of a way other than emulations?Originally posted by Parka:Which explains why some OS rocks and others not so rock.
Theres a hack to run OSX on 86x systems, but not very stable and many programs not supported. Might as well get a real oneOriginally posted by chenc:LOL, i am still trying to replace my XP with OSX, very hard leh, anyone know of a way other than emulations?
oh I forgot, I remembered reading somewhere that says 64bit or dual-core processors can take double the amount of ram. Hardware makes a difference too.Originally posted by chenc:You sure? I thought only the mother board matters. Mac can take 32GB, i am sure of it. I have seen one, in fact.
As for XP, do you know that gaming PCs like Vodoo and verlocity all have 32 GBs RAM upgrade option for their customers?
Different brand is ok, but different type may not be ok.Originally posted by ryangian:1 Question, Hope the lao jiao can help me out on this matter....
My HP CPU already has two 256 RAM inside and the brand is Samsung. Will adding another two 512 RAM of another brand like Twinmos or Kingston casue my system to cock up. The HP guy says TECHNICALLY should be ok but I like to hear from more people.
Thanks for all your help
