What to expect from an endocrinologist? Or what to bring?
first did u get a referral letter from your GP? why u want to see in the first place?
No letter. For height issue.
o.O" you didn't go to policlinic first?!
Need to do so? I can't just go there?
After letter or whatsoever. What do I have to do?
I mean do I need to go for any check-up or blood test before going for the endocrinologist or let the specialist do all the check-up thing?
what u mean by height issue? r u too short, need injection to grow taller, or you are very tall, want to make it shorter is it?
Yes, grow taller. What injections? There's no need to grow shorter, I guess?
What would the doctor do?

Go polyclinic, get a referal letter. Then you'll be subsidized patient. Cheaper by alot!!
Ok. I want to know what to do in advance or maybe what to expect when I visit the specialist. Can anyone tell me? Thank you!

You go to the specialist clinic, give the referral letter to the receptionist, and you wait for them to call your name.
Uh, no, seriously. How would we know what an endocrinologist would do to you?
And also, please see the GP at a polyclinic first so that he can refer you to the specialist if he deems it to be necessary. After all, if the GP thinks that there is no problem, then why bother seeing a specialist?
I would like to see the specialist to probably help me grow taller because I am pretty short. What if the GP says no problem but I want to grow taller actually? I am like every other boy but just that my height isn't comparable.
how tall r u btw? what are your parents height?

The reason why you should go to a GP first for pre-screening is because it may turn out that you do not need any treatment at all.
Doctors do not just give out Human Growth Hormone therapy to anyone who thinks they are too short. HGH therapy is more for people who suffer from outright dwarfism (you know, midgets). Go read this up: HGH therapy
Seriously, how old are you and how tall are you? If you're anything more than midget-sized, the GP will bar you from undergoing HGH therapy. Going straight to the endocrinologist will give you the same negative result (with a much bigger hole in your wallet).
160cm.16 this year.
I went to look for the GP and the GP did nothing much except asking some questions. He said boys might continue growing until 18. He said maybe mother isn't tall that's why. But my father is tall.
How much would the endo cost?
hey boy, u still have 2 more years to grow, no need see specialist lar. thought you are 150cm or below.
you can grow up to 170cm in 2 years lar boy. if not 170cm, 168cm at least.
160 cm at 16 years ==> a bit short, but no way in heck does that constitute dwarfism.
Mind you, I have friends (full male adults) who are 160 cm or less.
Being 16, you can expect to continue growing for the next five years. For all you know you might naturally shoot up in height over the next couple of years.
The GP did nothing much, precisely because there is no problem. If you want to see the specialist directly, fine, no problem, but dollars to donuts say that he will say the exact same thing. And if you do that, it will cost you around $80 for first consultation, give or take.
Forget this whole enterprise; it's not worth it. There's nothing wrong with your body that needs fixing, it's your mindset that needs to be changed.
why dun u post your concerns to Strait Times Mind your Body, published every thursday. the specialist will reply to you if you need to see a doctor on this.
160cm. hmm. that's a normal height actually. though a little on the short side.
Important thing to ask: What's your growth rate like in the past 2 years? Are you still on a constant growth splurt? or is your growth slowing? Or has it stopped?
You only get 1 growth splurt in puberty, once its over, its over. Your height will basically stop growing by the time you reach 18. Any growth will probably be like 0.5cm/yr from 18 onwards.
So using your past growth rate, you can roughly estimate how tall you will be at 18, and that would be your adult height.
And very sad to say, hormone injections will not work on people who already completed their growth splurt. You can research about this on the internet.
It only works on people around 14 and below, where the body is actively producing growth hormones, and the injections serve to complement and enhance the concentration of growth hormones.
After that splurt, the brain will not recognise further "splurts" brought about by artificial means. Cos' if it does, I'm very sure everyone will want to get those growth hormone injections. Who doesn't wish that he or she could be taller?
ehhhh...
Why the rush???
Fudge, has those friends of yours faced any difficulties? I think my growth has been constant. I want to maximise my growth before I reach adulthood. There are people shorter than me and but there are plenty taller than me.
Thanks for the replies, I've learnt quite a bit.

Constant growth. That's good.
To maximise growth, the theories out there on the net mostly suggest high impact sports.
The idea is to get microfractures in your bones, e.g. jumping around in a game of basketball will create stress in your leg bones, where there will be tiny cracks in your bones.
Then, when you sleep, stretch your legs so that you can keep these cracks apart, and your body's healing mechanism will fill up these cracks, and viola! bone growth = height growth.
Besides jumping, are there any more ways?
Could anyone feel free to give some input? Thank you!
play basketball lor. do u play that in school?
