GP repeats inappropriate prescription of medication
SINGAPORE: Despite giving an undertaking in 2009 not to commit misconduct again, a general practitioner continued to inappropriately prescribe hypnotic and codeine-containing medication.
For his latest actions, the Singapore Medical Council has ordered Ng Chee Keong be suspended for six months and fined S$10,000.
He was also censured.
The doctor, who practices at Eunos 5 Clinic, pleaded guilty to 11 of the 17 charges proceeded with.
The disciplinary council (DC) found the extent of Ng's prescription to be excessive, irresponsible and potentially dangerous.
In 2009, Ng was convicted of 22 charges of professional misconduct related to the inappropriate prescription of benzodiazepines and codeine-containing medication to his patients.
He was then also fined S$10,000, suspended for six months, and censured, in addition to giving an undertaking not to repeat his actions.
Ng's current six-month suspension took effect July 11.
