My nose is always blocked. When I lie down to sleep, I cant really breathe well, so have to spray nasal spray, damn irritating. anyone facing this problem? is surgery the only option to open up the airwaves in the nose?
i suggest => Nasal Irrigation

is it effective? you tried out this method and it works for you?
well, not this scientific.. but there was once when my nose was so gummed up, in desperation i sprayed warm water up my nose into the nasal cavities...
a lot of gunk came out and i could breathe better...
lots of people with the runny nose sinus problems have used the neti pot regularly for relief...
my own sinus problems were solved when i moved abroad for a while.. the dry weather dried out my nasal passages and allowed them to heal.. and it's now pretty okay

I can't do it in the office now but I can tell you which accupuncture points to press to clear your blocked nose
Will post the picture later
That is what the chinese sinseh taught me to clear my sinus if it gets too blocked
She said with time, if you do it everyday for 5 mins in the morning and before you sleep it will improve

oic. did u see ENT specialist before?
what nasal spray you used? dun use afrin, it has a rebound effect. can use nasonex or nasacort though.
I also assume u got cough right? doctors told me the cough is linked to the nasal problem.

Nasonex used before, usually prescribed by hospitals isnt it. I am using a stronger one called Nasacort. I used Nasonex a few times, find it not really that effective.

Your situation is more serious than me then
Nasonex works for me and I don't even have to use it everyday
A spray once every 3 or 4 days before my problem comes back

yes my blocked nose happens all the time, esp the time when I went to sleep. my nose was blocked when I lie down on the bed. I need to use nasal spray daily. think I need to go for surgery soon.
I have chronic sinus for more than 15 years and i have over come and now living without surgery and i seldom take pain killers.
some aspect of self treating and living with sinus you need to know so that you don't need surgery.
1) Cut down citrus juicy. althought it has antioxident but it is also your body of getting rid of waste and as such citrus juicy produce mucus in sinus....So if you are having sinus infection hold off juicy for a while.
There are vitamin C fruits that are less citrus such as Papaya or Apple.
2)...there are 2 types of nasal irrigation. neti Tea pot. pressure jet and draining type.
Draining type the pot basically look like a tea pot and you use warm water and salt solution to drain one side of the noise to the other side. Drain off mucus and it clear your nasal and most importantly clear your nasal hair and passage way of sticky muscus that built up bacteria.
Pressured type you basically insert the noise pcs into oneside of the noise and squeeze the bottle the water will shoot up into your nasal passage and clean up mucus on the other side.
But be warmed there is a surge of pressured into your sinus that might affect your inner ear.
used it twice a day.....before you go to sleep and morning before you start your day.
Sometime your sinus swell and it is painful for you to use the neti pot. your sinus has already infected with bacteria. You may have apply neti pot and you still find painful on sinus
if your sinus is swellon and your mucus is stuck you need to either reduce the swell or drain off the mucus.
in such a case i uses fisherman breath .......it help to melt the mucus. discovered by accident.
Doctor treatment......
i once read an article that doctor and insert a ballon on your nasal passage to avoid the closure of the passage that result in swelling. That case mucus can always drain off.....
In the past sinus problems was my monthly affair these days.....once or twice a year.
and i cut down on antibiotics and pain killers.
good luck.
I also have lastime exercise cured it. Mine was not serious, only used nasorex. Now ok le.
I also have sinus since young and I had operation back then.
Now not so bad liao. Still have stuffed nose when lying down, but no need to resort to painkillers.
Perhaps seeking a specialist may help.
ya damn, when lie down on the bed, cant breathe properly lar.

there is a simple technique that could ease breathing difficulty.
when you lie down used your 2 finger and press on center of your cheek. There is this "vortex" and breath.
Stop drinking Juice for a changed.
I know what is the problem with my constant nasal congestion, as I have went thru the somnoplasty today. Have to go thru a few follow-up of somnoplasty then have the effects.
Somnoplasty is composed of the Latin root somnus meaning sleep, and the Greek word plastia meaning molding or formation. Somnoplasty is a medical treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat three conditions: habitual snoring, chronic nasal obstruction, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using radio frequency (RF) energy to shrink the tissues that are causing the problem.
Somnoplasty is typically an out-patient procedure where you visit the office for a 30-45 minute appointment and then can go about your day.
The patient is given a local anesthetic and a special electrode that delivers RF energy under the surface of the tissue is used. The electrode is used to administer controlled, low-power RF energy to create coagulative (clotting) lesions beneath the mucosa (lining) of the targeted areas:
(the actual areas targeted depends on each individuals specific anatomy, so the above are just general associations.
After 6-8 weeks the lesions are naturally resorbed, which reduces the volume of the tissue while stiffening what remains. When this occurs the airway is enlarged, allowing a less-restricted flow of air. Several follow-up treatments are usually required to obtain the desired results.
