Questions regarding stds.

  Im 19 this year, and recently i've noticed fungi looking growths on my privates,
  doctors i've visited told me its genital warts and its a kind of std.
  
  I found out that it is a very contagious disease from the internet, if that is so, does it mean my girlfriend whom i had intercourse with recently will definitely get it?..
  
  yes, i know its very irresponsible of me and i deeply regreted it..
  
  I've been losing sleep recently over this and starts thinking lots of stupid stuffs.
  
  can anybody here give me more information regarding this type of std?..

  Genital warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) which is sexually transmitted. There is no certainty whether your girlfriend has been infected with HPV. Using a condom may reduce the risk of HPV transmission but does not provide a 100% protection. Genital warts are treatable.   Yes, they are contagious and your gf is at risk of contracting genital warts as well, even if you used protection.
  
  If what you did was irresponsible, then the responsible thing to do would be to tell her about your condition and the risk of her coming down with it as well. Get her to go for a screening as soon as possible.
