accidental biting of tongue...

  why is it actors or actresses in shows always threaten to bite their tongue to end their lives? is there a main artery somewhere in the tongue? i accidentally bit the tip of my tongue when eating & i could see blood coming out.
  
  now still haven heal yet & it hurts to eat. anything i can do abt it?

  go to a pharmacy or even 711. buy this ointment called bonjela.
  
  it mite sting a little wen 1st applied.
  
  otherwise keep gargling w warm salt water.

  No, it will take forever to bleed to death and I doubt that is possible. Theoretically, if someone is unconscious and has a bleeding tongue, then yes, he can choke (aspirate) on his blood and die that way, but not when he is conscious...

  "Bite the tongue" means to avoid to say something what the autor would regret later or what shouldn't be said or what the others wouldn't like to hear and so on.
  
  For example "I was biting my tongue else I would say what I think about that a..hole"! No offence, that was just an example.
