not finished completly the virus will grow immune to the antibodiesOriginally posted by PoRen:Whenever doctors prescribed anti-biotics to us, they always say they must be finished (fully consumed)?
Why is this so?
So what will happen if it is not fully consumed?
yeah he's right..eating it regularly oso builds up the body's defend against bacteriaOriginally posted by the Bear:viruses are not affected by anti-biotics... ceecookie, if you don't know what you're talking about, please cease and desist...
to finish it, you kill the bacteria that is causing the infection totally...
if you stop, the medication level drops and the residual bacteria develops an immunity to the anti-biotics.. you may not be infected anymore but that bacteria may spread to others who are affected and infected...
and now, the anti-biotics are useless because of the resistance to the medication..
you read about superbugs which are resistent to drugs.. well, now you know where you get these things from..
they're from the irresponsible people who do not finish their anti-biotics!

Originally posted by the Bear:Yeah... concentrate on the bolded sentences... the resistance increases because of the high chance of the bacteria to evolve or mutate in other sense to another group of bacteria (but still same family) which is now resistant to the current common antibiotic that is prescribed for the main problem. The next time when you develop the same infection (reinfection), the common antibiotic may render to be useless now. So that's why you have to get a more expensive and more powerful antibiotic.

haha..my regularly means when the doc gave it to u...if nv give of course dun go buy and eat lar..wan can go buy those vitamin pills..Originally posted by the Bear:that's where you're wrong..
do not take anti-biotics for no reason and never ever take it to "build up defences" because it won't work..
Sadly, no... prophylactic (or usage before infection) antibiotics are only indicated for certain conditions when bacterial infection is imminent. Such conditions include a breach of the human body defense by a primer, such as a viral infection which creates a suitable condition for bacteria to penetrate the breach and settles down to inflict a greater damage. Viruses are very small and can breach even the tightest junctions of the cells, but not bacteria.Originally posted by cockaholic:yeah he's right..eating it regularly oso builds up the body's defend against bacteria
Wrong. Antibiotics have no effect on viruses. Antibiotics do have effects on bacteria. If you don't finish your antibiotics, the bacteria will get resistant to the antibiotics, and if the same disease strikes you again, the same antibiotics will not be able to cure you.Originally posted by ceecookie:not finished completly the virus will grow immune to the antibodies

Viruses can also be to "eat" certain bacteria, but I never see this one before. Very curious how this looks like.Originally posted by renorenal:Sadly, no... prophylactic (or usage before infection) antibiotics are only indicated for certain conditions when bacterial infection is imminent.
