if left alone, can be very dangerous and fatal as the area well swell up (the larynx) and occlude totally the airways leading to respiratory arrest... means cannot breathe lar basically... the scope procedure is relatively painless, but really uncomfortable, as they will give u a local anaesthesia for it... -

best and safest period of time is to get it done within 24 hours of the onset of problems when u notice the problem. the area will tend to swell up over time as the inflammatory cells will be diverted from the blood to the local site of where the foreign body (Fish bone) is and starts attacking it to remove the insult.
but it has to be borne in mind that not all fish bones are calcified, hence it won't turn up in the x rays, but ENT surgeons rely on other methods to check in the xrays for symptoms suggestive of fishbone stuck in the area...
if you can localize the pain, all the better, meaning that the bone can be easily identified... -
Fish bone is very small leh... how to perform a Heimlich Maneuvre to get it out? Since it is relatively small, it gets trapped in a pouch around the larynx called the piriform fossa. can check it out over the net...Originally posted by gorby107:Push the stomach -
