You have a very low threshold of worrying... the normal WCC is between 4000-11000. White cell count normally increases to fight off a simple infection such as a urinary tract infection, bladder infection, common cough and cold, ear infection or sore throat. It can also be elevated after an injury or during healing of a wound.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Docs, got one question.
What is the normal white blood cell count?
My friend got admitted to hospital and the report says the white blood cell count is 21000. Like very high leh. I learn in biology that the ratio is 1:500.
She is discharged liao.
Also, she has fever and diarrhoea.
The symptoms remind me of leukemia.
Does discharging means that there is nothing wrong?

dun worry, the site i recommended to u is rather easy to understand... but dun let the criterias listed above make u come into a rash conclusion... it is in the mind that everyone has a certain personality trait, that differentiates us from one another, and some people just have it more and some less, that's why we develop such from young... some of these personality can cause the person to be more feasible into getting depressed, solitary, lonely or even more angry, frustrated, hot tempered, easily irritable, while others are more quiet, shy, conservative, keep to themselves and don't really mind what is goingon in their lives...Originally posted by StarPuppy:ya...i am not really sure thats why

you can try your family GP first, if he sees the need, he will write a referral letter to the right physician to deal with ur problems... GP's are gatekeepers... they are the ones who manage all first hand cases and if not within their reach, they will refer you to specialists or consultants for further recommendations and consult...Originally posted by StarPuppy:people reccomend me to see a doctor...what kind?

Yes, sometime just suddenly sneeze and just continously......Originally posted by renorenal:Do you have it often and when it comes, did you noticed any triggering factor, such as excessive dust, fumes, smokes, or a humid weather?
just suddenly sneeze for no apparent reason? do you noticed that the area is dusty or humid or just freezing cold such as in an air conditioned room? Talking about that, can u bear with the above environment?Originally posted by gorby107:Yes, sometime just suddenly sneeze and just continously......
She wasn't sick when she had this checked.Originally posted by renorenal:You have a very low threshold of worrying... the normal WCC is between 4000-11000. You shouldn't be thinking of leukemia as it is a very very serious disease. Patients usually come in with loss of appetite, loss of significant weight over a short period of time, abdominal pain, abdominal bloatedness and swelling, rashes, fever would be mild if it is a chronic problem, easily prone to be infected, easily bruised and have constant symptoms of dizziness, pale appearance, light-headedness and racing heart beat. There may even be long term bone pain or multiple joint pain.
Yes, discharging means the patient is on a recovering trend and can be managed at home. Usually they are advised on returning to the hospital's outpatient dept if they continue to suffer the symptoms or if it gets worse...
My advise to you:- try not to think that everything is serious. I presume that your friend is young, vibrant, healthy and in good condition, try to relate the logic with logic. It's medicine...
there are many insignificant causes of raised white cell count... pregnancy also can cause a raise relatively.., but it's normal...Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:She wasn't sick when she had this checked.
She is at home resting now...
She doesn't have most of the symptoms describe here though. Just got worried when she tells me the white blood cell count.

Take the medicine you got, drink lot of mineral water. Has the doc told you about some diet you should keep? Nothing fatty, no yogurt, try bananas and rice.
