i had no idea what is it like and how it will be .. any advice ???
If you don't have an immigrant visa, it may be quite difficult since employers are not likely to sponsor a work visa for a chef position, barring exceptional cases. But I think a good first step would be to contact potential employers and ask about the prospects, since conditions vary from country to country. If you succeed, do let me know. I like talking to chefs.
Hi mate,
I'm a chef from Singapore currently working in Taipei.. Before moving over, i completed my culinary studies in Toronto, Canada and stayed back to work for couple of years before moving back to Singapore.
Like what 8light said is quite true, it's not really easy to apply for a work visa in many countries for a chef because one, alot of chefs foregin countries hire are from europe. Most goverments will ask the employer why do you need this chef ? As an asian chef, most labour boards will say he's not european / american.. What can he bring to your western restaurant ?
I was lucky enough to be a graduate from a Canadian culinary school and worked in many fine restaurants in Canada, so it makes things easier.. And also, i was head hunted to join this company from HK and they sent me to their outlets in Taipei..
But good luck in your job hunt overseas mate ! Let me know if you need anymore advices..
