The Riverside Plaza apartment complex just on the outskirts of downtown Minneapolis. Almost all of the residents in the complex are blacks and Somali immigrants. Unsurprisingly, this particular location has the dubious distinction of being the most crime-ridden spot in all of Minnesota.

Actually, I wanted to try the ma lak steamboat, but somehow ended up with that ma lak fish dish. I was amazed by how much oil it had....was like 2-inch layer of hot chilli oil!
Despite all the oily food, the locals aren't fat like many S'poreans. Maybe there's some truth about the chilli weight loss programme that's being promoted in the local media? -

It was a beautiful day today, so I managed to con my good friend Jim into sharing the cost of a plane rental at our flying club. Here are some quick snapshots I took during our flight:
Taxiing onto Runway 16 at Fleming Field for takeoff. Jim is flying the outbound leg, leaving me free to work the camera.
Climbout from Fleming Field, heading south.
A shot of the snowy Minnesota landscape from approximately 1800' AGL.
Minnesota farm country, in winter.
The Koch refinery, just south of the Twin Cities. This facility produces almost all of the automotive gasoline used in the upper Midwest region.

Heading back to Fleming Field after a quick stop at Cannon Falls to switch seats. Jim's in the back seat handling the camera now, and I'm flying.
Nice sunset shot.
That's me making a final approach into Runway 34 at Fleming Field. KNN, I told Jim to switch off the flash on the camera--this shot killed my night vision and left me blinded for a couple of seconds. We landed okay, though.

The southern third of the state, in which the Twin Cities are located, can be considered prairie land. The northern two-thirds have a more rugged topography, though you'd be hard-pressed to call it mountainous. -
