if indian dominated the world then how? muthu tan, prem teo?
It disturbs me that dialect chinese never held political power in this country.
All along in this country it has always been a minority elite controlling the majority dialect chinese.
We dialect chinese never had political power in this country.
So it's the same. We are the same as the malays, tamils.
We don't control power in this country.
We are all in the same boat.

many of our ministers dont use english names even though some have it.

This is partly due to the anglicisation of Singapore by PAP.
Oh yah lah, everything is the gahmen's fault, huh? Gahmen mind-controlled people to have English names, right?
Keep your Speaker's Corner nonsense away from this forum. I'm warning you.

Lee Khoon Choy, a Singapore diplomat also has the same views as me.
He criticises the anglicisation policy of PAP.
See his introduction in his book:

indirectly, that is true.
Because PAP gradually destroyed all the chinese language institutions of learning in Singapore, such as the final annihilation of nantah in 1980, and imposed upon the people an anglicised education system, the chinese people in Singapore slowly became more and more anglicised, rather than sinified.
The mainstream media also started to have more and more western english shows, thus exposing the people to western culture.
This and other factors led to the anglicisation of Singapore, people started to be influenced and started using english names.
All of this is quite clear and there is no big controversy within academic circles I think.
See Lee Khoon Choy's book.
Imposing of an alien english colonial culture upon the people of Singapore by the PAP and the weakening of chinese culture is a recurring theme in Singapore politics.
This issue can seriously threaten the power of Lee Kuan Yew and PAP, so that is why PAP will always deal harshly with those who criticises the anglicisation policy.
POLITICALl exile Ho Juan Thai has been told he is welcome to return after 22 years - if he is prepared to be interviewed over his allegedly racially inflammatory speeches during the 1976 general elections.
However, Malaysian opposition politician Abdul Razak Ahmad is still persona non grata.
Mr Ho fled to Britain in 1977 after unsuccessfully standing as a candidate for the opposition Workers Party during the 1976 election, which now Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew's People's Action Party won hands down.
While campaigning, Mr Ho lambasted the government's promotion of the use of English over Chinese. He fled before police could detain him under the Internal Security Act as a national threat.

Tang Liang Hong lived in Singapore with his wife and three children. There, he owned two cars, a Lancia and a Mercedes 280, and belonged to the Singapore Cricket Club and the Jurong Country club. On the face of it, he was a successful lawyer of 28 years experience who had earned himself a comfortable lifestyle in a place famous for its shopping and its access to international travel. He should have been considering retiring comfortably.
Instead, Tang has run afoul of Singapore’s government and Lee Kuan Yew, the leader he once admired. Because of his concern for Singapore in general, and for the Chinese community in particular, Tang has been forced to leave the country. He fled to Malaysia in January, 1997, shortly after the general election in Singapore..

Are you seriously testing my patience?
i think the least we could and should do is introduce ourselves in full name. e.g. moses tan ah teck. if one chooses to call you moses, then be it. but at least let people know you are tan ah teck and not moses tan.
i used to introduce myself with my english name only. now i know its wrong to use an ang moh name and disregard my real name.
it seems everybody is doing it. moses tan, david lim, sebastian wong. some even call themselves weird english names.
