I don't need anyone to tell me how I should speak, be they ang mohs, PRCs, and certainly not other singaporeans with a closet inferiority complex, and I don't think anyone can be truly proud and confident of who he or she is, if the person is not even confident of how he sounds like when he opens his mouth ... but if you think affecting a "singaporean ang moh" accent is a good way to bridge bridges between everyone from kiwis, aussies, brits, canadians, americans, south africans, or any other sort of different ang mohs all with widely different accents ........ whatever works mate ! ...
and back to topic ... I don't laugh at the way those fellows speak ... be they ah tiongs, ah nehs or the lesser sort of ang mohs, but I certainly take offense when they do ... this is singapore ... this is how we are, who we are ... they don't like it ? don't like any of our values ? kindly fark off back to where they come from ... there are plenty waiting in line to take their place while the grass is still green .....
Yes, agreed. Anyway I wasn't referring to you. I just feel it's stupid to laugh at other people's accents, as with some of the stupid postings in this thread.
Basically, as long as we are comfortable with ourselves, it's sufficient.
some prc-s are just plain irritating. but i know some that are quite nice too. i mean there are nice and ugly singaporean too. we just gotta live with such people...
Actually it's the Northern PRCs that are bloody irritating thinking they are superior over all other Chinese, be it Singaporean Chinese or the Southerners.
The Chinese accent spoken by the southerners are very similar to ours.
Most of our forefathers come from the South anyway.
how to tell northern or southern?
btw i've seen alot of prc-s filling up their waterbottles which have tea leaves that look like this:
wondering if its really nice.. looks like seaweed @_@
We can't blame them for speaking in their native accent. They were brought up speaking that way. But do they have to speak so loud in public?
Not all of them are bad though. There are some rare exceptions.
You may find a few rotten apples in a barrel of apples and you would be lucky to find one or two good ones in the barrel of apples from China.

flower petals such as rose buds r also common...
Is it me or are some Singaporeans very sensitive?
