Went over to look for 2nd hand items today at Salvation Army located at near Bukit Timah. I was shocked to see the item being sold at a very high price. Can you imagine a sofa set going at $1600 and bloody get it free from the public.
I mean come on, understand that it was meant for fund raising pursose but $1600, i rather look for a new set. Bloody sucking our blood dry man...
going for a good cause..
but nobody's forcing you to buy. =)
let me tell u something...their store at Bkt Timah is actually not intended for individual customers...

the price simply makes it expensive. but the money going to helping poorer folks, is for a good cause.
it's 2 different issues.

i'm sure the govt is regulating it very strictly.. seeing the recent cases of charity abuses. =)
When I saw the title, I thought it is going to be about the whole organisation or something like that ... sekali .. different leh ... well if it is too expensive don't buy, but if want to do charity and buy furnitiure, a bit more will not harm you ..
But I think they are doing a very good job on the main cause ... taking in those unwanted and neglected children... I am not good at these but there was once I went there to do some demostration to the kid ... my tears rolls when I saw them ... goodness gracious ...

If it's too dumb to buy it, then don't buy it lah!
They didn't force anyone to buy it, did they?
Reminds me of that irrational brouhaha over a charity which charged volunteers $20 to clean the homes of poor people.... if you don't like the charge, then just don't do it!

I sort of agree with this...
If the Salvation Army gets a sofa that's worth $1600 to sell...there is no reason for them to sell it at $1.60 just because they are the Salvation Army...
if U think the price is too expensive for a sofa...then simply dun buy....
I have to agree with the ppl here. The prices are there, you are not forced to buy it. Furniture in Salvation Army are used. I also understand that you are able to get them to lower the price. If you think the prices are too expensive, there's nothing stopping you from buying at the normal shops.
However saying that, sometimes you are able to get a good deal. A couch for $100-150. I have never tried the Bt Timah one. I prefer the other outlet.
