  Nowadays the architect seems to be so stupid in their designs. They had made wooden door frames and wooden doors for toilets. within a few years from moving in, all the door frame starts to get rotten and mouldly from the water during shower.
  
  and to get them to replace can set you back by anything from $900-$1200

  does an architect determine the material of the doors n etc..
  
  on the side note, this is a way to generate income...

  well, usually the architects would come out with the designs and required materials unless the developers(owners) clearly states what they want. so the architects has the biggest influence on the type of material to be used.
  
  they design and determine the toilets as well but the mechanical system (flush system) is recommended by the Mechanical Engineers.

  only the rich engage interior designer. usually, if its mass built eg flats and condominium, the ID woun't be involved. Arichtects are ID trained too.

  My toilet has a painted wooden door. It's as old as me and is still in good condition.
