  I thought marine parade had number 196 which goes past NUS ...only you have to walk.

  I have 196 and 197 as direct buses.
  
  However, the journey on either bus takes close to two hours usually.

  i travelled 1.5 hours to NUS everyday too for 4 years.
  
  and it takes 1 hour to reach my workplace now. and thats cos i'm lucky its next to the mrt
