SINGAPORE: Supermarket chain NTUC FairPrice will accept Visa payment card at all its stores island-wide starting Friday.
It hopes to offer a convenient, fast, secure and rewarding way to make payment.
According to a Visa
survey on payment card usage habits at supermarkets in Singapore, 42 per
cent of grocery shoppers use cash most often when paying for their
purchases, but 49 per cent would prefer paying for groceries with
payment cards.
The survey said although payment with cash at
supermarkets is still prevalent, with payment card acceptance widespread
in Singaporean supermarkets, cards are set to displace cash as the most
popular payment method for grocery shopping.
Among the most
common electronic payment card options available to consumers, credit
cards (39 per cent) are the preferred way to pay for groceries, followed
by ATM cards (28 per cent) and cash (22 per cent).
Grocery
shoppers who responded to the survey said they prefer to use cards to
pay to earn rewards/loyalty points and enjoy direct discounts or other
benefits.
55 per cent of respondents also said using credit cards
was more convenient than using cash, and 50 per cent already use credit
cards for big expense items and routine shopping.

Should have implemented long ago.
We are like 10 years behind other developed countries.
Why they restrict on card payment, only allow certain ones?
