WHEN global food prices soared in 2007 and 2008, supermarket chain FairPrice rolled out various schemes to help people save on their daily expenses.
It will do so again this year amid rising inflation in Singapore.
The battleplan will be unveiled after Chinese New Year, said its spokesman, when contacted on how it plans to help people cope with inflation as the Consumer Price Index hit a two-year high of 4.6 per cent last December.
The offers are likely to be similar to those rolled out in 2007 and 2008, when the price of rice jumped by 30 per cent at one point in early 2008.
In 2007, FairPrice offered a 5 per cent discount on its housebrand products. The offer continued till December 2009 and helped shoppers save an estimated $12 million, FairPrice said.
The chain also reduced the prices of its housebrand rice by between 5 per cent and 12 per cent in June 2008.
