FairPrice launches Singapore's 1st PERGAS-audited supermarket
NTUC FairPrice's supermarket outlet at Joo Chiat Complex has received a halal audit.
The auditors, PERGAS Halbiz, confirms that business operations at the store are in compliance with Halal requirements as recommended by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore.
The Managing Director of NTUC FairPrice is Seah Kian Peng.
He says plans are underway to audit 39 other outlets in the next one year.
"This is something that we look forward to. Because with this programme I think it gives not only our operation staff greater confidence that the facilities, the processes and the practices are all correct. At the same time it gives our customers, Malay customers in particular, greater confidence when they shop at our stores."
A third of the products carried by the Joo Chiat outlet is Halal-certified.
Of these, about 400 are new, including a wide range of baking needs and spices, meat products and even toilteries.
As part of its initiatives to engage Muslim customers, FairPrice
also partnered with Ain Society to produce Selera Raya, a special
cooking show on Suria channel.
The newly launched store will also pilot the 'Stretch Your Dollar Zone'
programme which will help customers save on grocery bills. The latest
initiative will feature value buys advertised in weekly advertisments.
And in conjunction with the new opening, NTUC FairPrice Foundation
presented $14,000 worth of FairPrice food vouchers for needy families
in Joo Chiat.

PERGAS seems to be only a consultancy firm... It's not even like a stat board
Looks like NTUC will soon take out all those small local businesses.
They seem to be in the market for eveything now - from food to insurance.
Can those medium players like Sheng Siong or Shop N Save compete with them?

How so?
With their size and clout, they can undercut the rest and slowly try to squeeze their competitors out of business.
How can you say NTUC is weak?
Give me examples.
