Singapore stages F1-themed supermarket night race
SINGAPORE: The Singapore Formula One race is just over a month
away. But the F1 fever has just got hotter, with a night race down the
supermarket aisle.
Supermarket chain Cold Storage and petrol company Shell organised a F1-themed race on August 14.
Complete with race queens and chequered flags, the human-powered super-carts tried to outrun one another.
The challenge? To collect S$289 worth of groceries in two minutes.
The '289' figure is symbolic of the Singapore Formula One race date - 28 September.
Nine teams of two took part in the race.
In the Media category, the team from media giants MediaCorp and
Singapore Press Holdings - comprising Channel NewsAsia's reporter
Patwant Singh and Straits Times journalist Alvin Foo - took the top
spot.
In the Open category, a husband-and-wife team aced the race.
Items collected during the race were donated to the Care Community Services Society.
